Consortium

The MARINER Consortium gathers actors from across the value chain.

The industrial players combine expertise in fuel cell manufacturing (Genevos) and multi-MW integration (VARD). Two end users bring real-world applications in the tanker (SCORPIO) and ferry (KIARA) sectors.

Mines, CEA and Sustainable Energy provide testing and demonstration facilities, while LR EMEA brings classification and certification expertise. NORCE, MINES, University of Stuttgart and CERTH cover expertise in modelling and algorithms, economic evaluation and life-cycle assessment.

DOWEL Innovation will ensure maximum dissemination and uptake of the project results.

NORCE is a Norwegian independent research institute with a particular focus on applied R&D in energy, and technology with strong connections to the maritime industry. NORCE is coordinating the project and leading the activities related to scale-up and end-user engagement.

GENEVOS is a French manufacturer of scalable PEM fuel cell systems for maritime applications. GENEVOS is leading the fuel cell design and assembly, integrating multi-stack solutions for the 1–10 MW scale.

VARD Electro, subsidiary of VARD Group, is a leading system integrator delivering turnkey electrical systems and solutions for the global maritime industry. It will bring its knowledge in integration and controlling of marine power systems, and will mobilise its network to enable direct engagement with non-EU shipbuilders and operators.

SCORPIO is a major international shipping company with over 130 vessels including product and gas tankers. SCORPIO provides vessel-specific operational data and end-user feedback on safety, crew training, and integration requirements.

KIARA is a company operating under the brand name of SEAJETS, a major Greek ferry operator with the world’s largest high-speed catamaran fleet, serving routes across the Aegean Sea. KIARA provides operational data, a real use case for a high-speed passenger ferry in the Aegean, and end-user feedback on safety, integration, and crew training.

LMG Marine France is a naval architecture and marine engineering company specializing in the design and optimisation of commercial and specialised vessels. Its expertise will support the definition of realistic vessel integration pathways, layout and space constraints, and scalability considerations across relevant vessel types.

ARMINES-MINES is a top French engineering school known for high-level research in energy systems, automation, and sustainability, with 30 years of experience in fuel cell research. ARMINES-MINES will develop the advanced physics-based models, monitoring and control algorithms, and contribute to the definition of accelerated stress test protocols for the fuel cell.

University of Stuttgart, Institute of Automotive Engineering, brings expertise in automotive powertrain systems, control software, application of Machine Learning methods to engineering problems and software development. The Institute oversees the integration of the physics- and databased models developed into open-source software and its publication.

CEA is a public Research and Technology Organisation and the largest technology research and innovation provider in France. CEA is leading the accelerated stress tests for the 200 kW sub-system, and the development of the related new protocols.

SUSTAINABLE ENERGY (SEC) is a Norwegian test center focusing on hydrogen technologies, providing testing and demonstration facilities for clean energy solutions. SEC oversees the testing and demonstration of the 1 MW fuel cell system under maritime-like conditions to validate system performance, reliability, and durability.

CERTH is Greece’s foremost multidisciplinary research center with strong expertise in technoeconomic analyses and LCA in hydrogen. CERTH is leading the related assessment activities and will liaise with the H2MARINE project.

LR EMEA is a globally recognized maritime classification society offering compliance, certification, and risk assessments. LR EMEA leads the activities on regulatory guidance, risk evaluations, and type-approval processes.

DOWEL is a French consultancy specializing in communication, dissemination, and knowledge transfer for European research projects. DOWEL manages the project’s communication plan, stakeholder engagement, exploitation strategy, and open science activities.
